Restore Sendai

On a recent mission trip to Sendai Japan we met Pastor Tsuneo Otomo, a retired Toshiba executive, farmer, and unsung hero.

先日の仙台へのミッショントリップにて、私たちは大友恒雄さんにお会いしました。彼は東芝の幹部役員を退職し、今は農家をしています。

Pastor Tsuneo Otomo and his wife Mariko are church planters; sent out 10 years ago from their home church Shiogama Bible Baptist Church. They lived in a farming community in East Sendai. Driving around the neighborhood and selling or sharing crops was their way of reaching out to neighbors. Their home was the local neighborhood church where they held worship and prayer meetings and Bible studies. On March 11, 2011 they and their neighbors lost everything.

恒雄さんと妻のまりこさんは開拓伝道者として、10年前に彼らの母教会である塩釜聖書バプテスト教会から送り出されました。彼らの畑がある東仙台で近所の人々に作物を売ったり、分け合ったりするのが彼らの伝道の仕方でした。彼らの家は賛美をしたり、祈り会をしたり、聖書の勉強をしたりと地元の人々の教会となっていました。
しかし2011年3月11日、彼らは全てをなくしました。

Soon after the 9.0 earthquake stopped, Tsuneo drove around this neighborhood, picked up many of his elderly neighbors and took them to the evacuation site. He was able to save all but one. The next week was scary and cold as the evacuees shared what little food and water they had.

巨大な地震がおさまってすぐ、恒雄さんは近所を見回り、逃げ遅れ取り残されているたくさんのお年寄りを避難所へ連れて行きました。避難した人たちはわずかな食料と水を分け合い、恐れと寒さを耐えしのいでいました。

Since the tsunami, Pastor Tsuneo and Mariko spend their days ministering to their former neighbors, many of whom still live in temporary housing. The Good News is their efforts are bearing fruit. In the year and a half since the tsunami, three people have already accepted Jesus as their Lord and Savior.

その津波以来、恒雄さんとまりこさんは仮設住宅で暮らしている昔の友人を訪ねてまわりました。素晴らしいことに、今、彼らの努力は報われきています。津波から1年半、3名もの人がすでにイエス様を自分たちの救い主として受け入れました。

Tsuneo and Mariko have a vision to help those who are still recovering from the tsunami. They see their new house church as having a small farm so former neighbors can come and grow their own vegetables – free of charge. For farmers there is no better way to begin the healing process. And next to the farm land will be a ministry center where everyone can sit and relax as they renew old friendships and hear about the Gospel.

彼らには津波の被害から回復しようとしている人々を助けるというビジョンがあります。それは彼らの新しい家の教会が小さな畑を所有し、近所の人々がそこで自分たちの野菜を無償で育てるというものです。農家の人々にとって、これが何よりもの癒しなのです。そして将来その畑の隣には、誰もが自由に出入りしリラックスできるミニストリーセンターを作り、福音を語ることが彼らの夢です。

Pastor Tsuneo and Mariko need financial support to make their dreams a reality. Our church has decided to help them raise funds to complete the purchase of the farm land and build the ministry center, about 20 million yen or US$250,000. Please consider giving to this cause. Your donation will be an eternal blessing to this community.

恒雄さんとまりこさんはそのビジョン実現に向けて、経済的なサポートを必要としています。そこで私たちの教会はその畑地とミニストリーセンターの購入（約2000万円、25万ドル）をサポートするべく、その資金を募ることにしました。どうかこのために捧げていただけないでしょうか。寄付金は全てこの地域を祝福するために捧げられます。

community outreach :: leahi hospital

Join in with our Men’s Ministry and One Blade Paddling Ministry as we support our neighbors by doing much needed painting at Leahi Hospital Thrift Store on
Saturday, August 11th, 8:00am – 12:00pm.
Paint is provided but we still need: paint brushes, rollers, buckets, rags, and ladders.
NHDH will provide lunch right after painting. Sign-up at the Info Table or contact Chris at 808-927-7860 or John at 808-478-2579.

kids water baptism class

Is your child asking to take the next step in their faith by being water baptized?
Parents, if your child is interested in being baptized, please join us for an informational meeting on
Sunday, August 5th at 11:30 am,
immediately after the 10:00am service at the Kahala Resource Center.
The baptism will take place on August 12th.
Interested kids can attend our instructional class that will be held at the same time.

2012 tithe challenge

The New Hope Diamond Head 2012 Tithe Challenge is underway!

In this past weekend’s sermon entitled “Investing in Change”,
Pastor Fernando explains exactly how the tithe challenge works.

If you missed the sermon, you can watch it by clicking HERE.
If you are interested in participating, please click HERE to download and print the 2012 Tithe Challenge sign up form.
Once you have filled out the form you can drop it in the offering bucket at one of our Saturday or Sunday worship experiences.
We are also collecting them at the info table at either the Diamond Head or Kahala Resource campus, or the church office at the Kahala Resource Center.
